Who We Are

Our Mission

Through education, conservation, and collaborative action, we work to protect,  restore and enhance nature habitats, fostering a deeper connection between people  and the environment. Together, we are building a resilient community dedicated  to the stewardship of our shared ecosystems.

Our Vision

To empower our community to build a sustainable future where humans and  nature thrive in harmony.

Our History

Founded in 1985 as the Sydenham Field Naturalists, we have spent four decades  championing nature in Chatham-Kent. In 2025, we rebranded to NatureCK to  reflect a new chapter in our shared journey.

Impact Highlights

Sydenham River Nature Reserve Restoration

In partnership with Ontario Nature, Lambton Wildlife, and local Conservation Authorities, we are restoring 60 acres of former farmland into tallgrass prairie and Carolinian forest, creating habitat for pollinators, grassland birds, and species at risk. Volunteers contribute by planting, seed collecting, and creating vernal pools.

Strong Conservation Partnerships

NatureCK has built active partnerships with the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority and the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority, enabling collaborative habitat restoration, invasive species management, and public engagement initiatives across the region. These partnerships strengthen our programs and expand opportunities for community involvement.

Community Reforestation Projects

With grant support, we are planting dense native forests in municipal parks using the Miyawaki method, helping clean the air, cool our communities, and provide homes for wildlife.

Protecting Local Natural Areas

As stewards of five unique properties, including Wallaceburg Sycamore Woods and Paw Paw Woods, we actively care for rare Carolinian habitats through invasive species control, planting, and trail maintenance.

Advocacy & Stewardship

Speaking Up for Nature

NatureCK makes submissions and encourages public input on environmental issues at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels. Topics include woodland protection, water quality, pollinator health, and sustainable land use.

Educational Talks and Walks

We host seasonal walks, workshops, and presentations for people of all ages, helping the community learn about local ecosystems, wildlife, and conservation practices.

Caring for Trails and Habitats

With grant support, we are planting dense native forests in municipal parks using the Miyawaki method, helping clean the air, cool our communities, and provide homes for wildlife.

Youth Stewardship Program (2025)

This program pairs young volunteers with mentors for hands-on conservation experience, fostering the next generation of nature leaders through habitat restoration, monitoring, and community engagement.
