The Fall Cattail Issue is Here!

The cool weather has arrived, the leaves are starting to turn, and migration is underway. There is something pretty special about fall in our part of the world. The landscape changes, birds are passing through, and if we slow down long enough to notice, there is always something happening around us.

The Fall Equinox edition of The Cattail is all about “Full Circle: Stewardship Brings Migration Home.” It looks at the connections between the places we care for, the wildlife that depends on them, and the familiar faces that return year after year.

Inside you will find local stories, beautiful photography, nature observations, and plenty to discover:

🍂 Autumn in the Native Plant Garden and why leaving the leaves and dried stems can help wildlife through the winter.

🦋 Pawpaw & Zebra Swallowtail and the fascinating connection between a native tree and the butterfly that depends on it.

🪽 Chatham-Kent’s Migrating Birds and some of the incredible birds making their way through our region.

🌿 Conservation Corner and the important role wetlands, grasslands and native plants play during migration.

🌳 Best Tree in Chatham-Kent 2026, celebrating the trees and the stories that connect us to them.

📸 Plus, more local nature stories and photography from the people who are noticing and sharing the natural world around us.
